Yes, the Spun voice chatbot can answer a WhatsApp voice note with a voice note, written from your own instructions and knowledge base and spoken in the customer's language. It works on your own WhatsApp number, and handoff words let a customer reach your team instead.
Many people would rather talk than type. They send a voice note from the car, between lessons or while cooking, and a typed paragraph in return feels like an answer to a different conversation.
The Spun voice chatbot answers in kind. When someone sends a voice note to your WhatsApp number, Spun transcribes it, writes the answer from your own instructions and knowledge base, turns that answer into speech and sends it back as a voice note. The person hears a reply without ever having to read one.
What happens when a voice note arrives
- 1
The voice note is transcribed
Spun turns the recording into text, so the bot works from what was actually said.
- 2
The answer is written
The AI Chatbot writes the reply using the instructions you gave it, the recent conversation and anything relevant in your knowledge base. The person sees "typing" while this happens.
- 3
The answer is spoken
The reply is turned into speech in the voice you chose. The person sees "recording" while the audio is made.
- 4
It arrives as a voice note
The answer is sent in the same chat as an ordinary WhatsApp voice note, and in your inbox it is labeled "Sent by voice chatbot" so your team can tell it from their own messages.
It answers from your material, not from guesswork
The voice chatbot is not a separate bot with its own brain. It is the AI Chatbot you already configure, answering out loud. Whatever you wrote in its instructions applies: what it is for, how it should speak, what it must never promise.
It also reads your knowledge base before answering. Upload your documents, FAQs, course notes or price lists, or import pages from your website, and the bot looks up the relevant parts for each question. That works across languages too, so a question asked in Hindi or Spanish can still be answered from an English document.
A good test before switching it on for real customers: record the five questions you hear most often and listen to the answers. If one sounds wrong, the fix is almost always a clearer instruction or a missing document, not a different setting.
What you control
- When it is active: always, only during business hours, or only outside them. These are the AI Chatbot's own modes, shared with its text replies.
- The voice: pick one of six voices as the default.
- The language: detect it from each voice note, or always answer in one language you choose. A fixed language is steadier when recordings are short or noisy.
- What happens if the voice cannot be produced: send nothing, or send the written answer as a text message instead.
- Handoff words: when the person says one of them, the bot sends your handoff message as text and steps back so a person can take over.
When it stays quiet on purpose
A bot that talks over your own automations or your team is worse than no bot. The voice chatbot steps aside in a few clear cases.
- An auto-reply rule already answered that voice note from its transcript. One answer is enough.
- Another automation is already running the conversation.
- It has already answered that voice note. A delivery retry never produces a second spoken reply.
- Your WhatsApp line is disconnected, or the AI Chatbot is switched off.
Limits and honest cautions
- Spoken answers are kept short, a few sentences. That is deliberate: a two-minute voice note from a bot is hard to listen to. For long explanations, send a document or a written message.
- Sensitive details are filtered out of the answer before it is turned into speech, and your organization's privacy settings apply as well. Anything with money, legal or medical consequences still belongs with a person.
- Voice replies are produced a couple at a time. If many voice notes arrive in the same moment, some can go without a spoken answer, so keep someone watching the inbox at busy times.
- Every reply comes from your own number and carries your business's name. Write the instructions as if you were briefing a new member of staff.
- Replies use your plan's AI allowance: writing the answer and producing the speech both count.
